Our Vision

Pattom’s overriding objective is to value and support people with a learning disability and/or a mental health condition, regardless of the type or level of disability, and to also value and support their families, friends, carers and representatives.

Our vision is to live in a world where everyone is respected and valued, treated equally, listened to and heard, and included, especially people with a learning disability and/or a mental health condition. We want everyone to have the opportunity to live the way they want to live, to achieve the things they want to achieve, and to get out of life what they desire.

Person-centred approaches and outcomes-based support will be used in all our services to ensure our support remains appropriate, and that it meets the wants and needs of each person. We believe that this approach should be adopted widely, throughout the social care and health care sectors.

Pattom aims to meet its vision by:

  • Listening to people with a learning disability and/or a mental health condition, and listening to their families, friends, carers and representatives.
  • Supporting people with a learning disability and/or a mental health condition in all parts of their lives, and in a way that they want.
  • Encouraging the changes that the people with a learning disability and/or a mental health condition, and their families, friends carers and representatives, want and need.
  • Working with all individuals, organisations, groups and professionals who share our vision, and who want to achieve the same goals we do.
  • Providing information and guidance to all.

For more information, please see Our Services.

We believe that we – and all our services – should:

  • Be person-centred
  • Outcomes-based
  • Respectful of the person
  • Be empowering
  • Change people’s lives for the better
  • Develop new and innovative ideas and opportunities
  • Challenge the way in which people think about learning disabilities and mental health conditions, especially where the way are misguided
